Cross-cultural exploration of pop culture as a body of widely shared and contested beliefs, practices, and material objects that present ordinary social life in spectacular and exaggerated form. Use of ethnography to understand pop culture as both a commercial phenomenon rooted in mass media as well as an expression of mass consumer resistance.
